Who needs it?

All car owners, in particular those who have cars on lease or hire purchase, because all lease agreements insist that the car is kept fully insured.

Overview

Levels of cover you can choose from, aside from the compulsory third party bodily injury (included in registration), are:

Comprehensive

Comprehensive provides cover for loss or damage to your vehicle and your legal liability for loss or damage to another persons vehicle or property.

Third Party Fire and Theft

Third Party Fire and Theft provides cover for loss or damage to your vehicle by fire or theft only, and your legal liability for loss or damage to another persons vehicle or property.

Third Party Property Damage

Third Party Property Damage your legal liability for loss or damage to another persons vehicle or property.

Nominated Driver Motor Vehicle

Nominated Driver Motor Vehicle where the car will be driven by no more than two nominated drivers who are 25 years of age or over. There is no cover for any loss, damage or liability if the vehicle is driven by someone who is under 25 years of age, unless it is being parked by a parking attendant, repaired, serviced or tested, or used to transport a person in the event of a medical emergency.

Nominated Driver Low Kilometre Motor Vehicle

Nominated Driver Low Kilometre Motor Vehicle has the same conditions as Nominated Driver PLUS it will not be driven more than 10,000 kilometres during your period of insurance.

Q. What is an excess?
A. An ‘excess’ is your contribution towards the cost of a claim. The type of excess that applies to your policy and that amount will be listed on the schedule.
You may need to pay more than one excess when you make a claim as there are 4 types:-

Basic – the basic excess which applies to your policy which varies depending on the make and model of your vehicle and the state or territory your vehicle is used.

Age – applies when the driver of your vehicle is less than 25 years of age.

Inexperienced – applies when the driver of your vehicle is 25 years of age or over and has not held a drivers licence for the two consecutive years before the claim occurs.

Additional – applies when it is agreed to cover the vehicle or any person authorized to drive the vehicle under special terms.

Q - Do I lose my No Claim Bonus (rating) if I have an accident which is not my fault?
A – No

Q – Do I lose my No Claim Bonus (rating) if I have an accident which is my fault?
A – No. Protection of your No Claim Bonus is covered for 1 claim per year (unless you have requested this cover to be removed or there has been special conditions imposed). For an extra premium you can purchase protection for all claims.

Q. – What is the difference between Market Value and Agreed Value?
A. Market Value is the amount of money it would cost to replace your vehicle in your local area with an identical vehicle. It is taken into account the condition of the vehicle. This amount includes any GST and stamp duty you must pay for the transfer of ownership of the replacement vehicle.

Agreed Value is the fixed amount we agree to insure your vehicle for as shown on your current schedule. This value includes modifications, manufacturer’s options and accessories that have been agreed on to insure.

Q. – Am I covered for damage to other people’s property?
A. – Yes $30,000,000 of liability.

Q. – Do I have any cover for towing a trailer?
A. - Yes if a trailer suffers loss or damage while attached to your vehicle they will pay for the cost to repair the trailer or the market value of the trailer or $1,000, whichever is the least amount.

Q. How can I make it easier for my children to get Full Cover insurance?
A. Some companies allow you to record the names of your children who are licensed to drive on your policy. That way, your children are able to build up a claim-free record which will stand them in good stead at the time they take out their own Full Cover policy. Contact our office for details.

Q. Is my No Claim Bonus transferable from one company to another?
A. Yes.

Q. What if my vehicle is unroadworthy?
A. If the insurance company finds that the unroadworthiness of your vehicle causes, or contributes to the accident, then they may refuse part, or all of the claim.

Q. If I change my car while my policy is still in force does the old policy cover the new car?
A. Yes. Generally speaking, insurance companies keep you covered on the new car for at least seven days after you have changed cars.
