Q. What are Contents?
A. Generally speaking Contents are such items as carpets, curtains, light fittings, furniture, personal effects, clothing, linen, kitchen utensils, electronic equipment, above ground swimming pools and portable air conditioners.

Q. What if I am renting a property?

A. Generally speaking the curtains, carpets, light fittings, etc are owned by the landlord and it is the landlords responsibilty to insure them under a Landlords Insurance

Q. Is my computer covered under the contents insurance policy
A.Yes they are covered within the house

Q. Is my mobile phone covered?
A.Mobile phones need to be covered as 'special vauables' under listed events, they are covered under 'accidental damage'

Q. Are air conditioners part of the contents?
A. Only if they are portable. Air conditioners which are ducted or installed in a window or walls are considered to be part of the building. Split systems are also considered to be part of the building.

Q. I am a carpenter. Are my tools of trade covered under my contents policy?
A. No. Generally speaking, tools of trade should be covered under a Tradepersons Insurance policy.

Q. How is my swimming pool covered?
A. Above ground pools are generally considered to be part of the Contents. In-ground pools are generally considered to be part of the building.

Q. What if I have a loss and I am under-insured?
A. The under-insurance clause takes effect shown in the explanation below. Where the sum insured in respect of property that is the subject matter of a contract in less than 80% of the value of the property, the insurer may reduce its liability of any loss, destruction or damage to the property insured.  This reduction may be ascertained in accordance with the formula
Formula
Where: A is the number of dollars equal to the amount of loss or damage
S is the amount of the sum insured under the contract in respect of the property , and
P is 80% of the number of dollars equal to the value of the property
Using the example stated above the formula would be A= $15,000 S= $50,000 and P = $80,000. So the pay out figure by the insurance company would be $9,375.


Q. Is my small dingy covered?
A. No. Waterborne craft should be covered under a Boat Insurance policy.
